I provided structural engineering for several parts of this EPC project:

  • Inclined feed conveyor

  • Inclined transfer conveyor

  • Transfer tower

  • Stair tower

  • Truck load-out building

  • Shuttle support structure

The transfer tower was constructed in four sections which were lifted into position. Once the tower was in place, the final conveyor trusses were installed on slide bearings. The designs were carried out using Spacegass and Ideastatica.

The client requested an engineering study to extend the life of the plant by 25 years. The study was conducted to provide cost estimates. Due to the plant's proximity to saltwater, many structures had experienced significant corrosion. The structural designs I developed included

  • Remediation of existing shiploader

  • Design of a new shiploader

  • Several options for new conveyors

  • Extension of transfer tower

  • Check designs of existing structures

The existing shiploader was designed prior to the introduction of AS4324. The remediated shiploader was redesigned to accommodate new load cases in compliance with the updated code. I incorporated the weights of all electrical and mechanical equipment into the model to ensure proper assessment of the dynamic load cases. Steel strengthening was required to many structural elements.

Stuctural engineering provided:

  • Warehouse steel frame

  • Concrete tunnels for composting

  • Concrete push-walls

  • Biofilter structure

  • Pipe supports

  • Tank farm footings and bunds

This structure is located over an abandoned mine site, presenting significant geotechnical risks. The warehouse was designed to accommodate up to 50mm of settlement at any given point.

This structure was built in the 20s and is  under heritage overlay.  To extend its life significant structural works were required involving:

  • New plan bracing

  • New wall bracing

  • Stiffening of steel truss members

  • Enlarging footings

Several older structures supporting tanks required seismic upgrades, as they were designed before the introduction of seismic code.

Platform extension for a scrubber unit

I designed an extension for a steel platform that supports an industrial scrubber at a plywood factory.

Transfer bridge for a pipe

This steel structure, located at the same plywood factory, is designed to support a pipe that transfers across the road from one side to the other.
